Dear Vuecrest Community,
It appears a bad “trend” is creeping into Vuecrest. Over the past several days/weeks/months we have experienced - car break-ins, stolen cars, catalytic converter thefts, porch pirates, homeless man sleeping on a resident's patio and most recently this morning a burglary was reported at which Bellevue Police responded to around 11am today.
We, as a community, need to be more proactive in securing the neighborhood and reporting anything strange (like cars casing the neighborhood) to Bellevue Police Dept immediately. Barbara Cosgriff, Chair of our Safety Committee, has been working diligently to get proposals for us to present on various increased safety measures. The BPD will increase the patrols in our neighborhood for now, but we MUST be on high alert for any suspicious activity and report it.
Some best practices we can follow to help enhance the safety of our neighborhood and prevent crime are:
- Increase the lighting around your home overnight.
- If going out of town-let your neighbors know your travel dates and ask them to check in on your house.
- Use your alarm system. Consider installing an alarm system.
- Bring in trash bins.
- Stop you mail and package deliveries
- Report all suspicious activity to Bellevue Police and to Safety@Vuecrest.net
Reporting crimes in Vuecrest is vital because the Bellevue Police Department has told us before that our crime rate is super low compared to other areas of the City, so if we don’t report issue, they don’t know where to patrol.
It’s back to the Community Block Watch tactics until we can implement a more comprehensive plan. We should have some more detailed information very soon with our action items/proposals.
Thanks for looking out,
Neda
