Great news from the program administrator at the Department of Ecology. We need more programs like these for other toxic and hard to handle products.

I am excited to announce that the E-Cycle Washington program has reached a landmark - 200 million pounds of electronics recycled!
The program began operation on January 1, 2009, and in less than five years Washington consumers have brought in 200,000,000 pounds (100,000 tons) of TVs, computers and monitors for safe and responsible recycling.
That's the equivalent of 361 fully loaded Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Check out the E-Cycle Washingtonhttp://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/eproductrecycle/ homepage and Ecology's press release on this milestonehttp://www.ecy.wa.gov/news/2013/272.html.
Increased public awareness resulting from the outreach efforts of the manufacturers (through the Washington Materials Management & Financing Authority), the Dept. of Ecology and local governments has been the key to ever-increasing yearly totals since 2009.
Over the last two years the program has been expanded to include tablet computers, e-readers and portable DVD players in addition to TVs, computers and monitors.
It is estimated that by recycling 200 million pounds of electronics, 13 million pounds of lead were kept out of landfills. See the Info Graphic developed by the WMMFAhttp://www.wmmfa.net/.
Thank you for your interest in the E-Cycle Washington program and for your help in reaching the 200 million pound milestone.
