FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 12, 2023
___________

The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present an art installation by Maggie Andersen at Auburn's Art on Main window-front gallery, on view April 12 - July 5, 2023.

Artwork Statement and Biography:

Clothing speaks a universal language that most people relate to. I am asking viewers to rethink the application of something so common. These life-sized wall sculptures suggest stories of exploration, survivorship and overcoming. I treat these 'garments' as paintings, employing balance, motion, and harmony. Other times, I explore the creative process as solving a puzzle; using 22-gauge wire, hand sewing the pieces into fitting harmony.  By bending flat industrial metals with my female hand, I find irony in turning the once utilitarian and recycled materials into graceful, fluid motion. Transformation is a common human experience, I love to turn the ordinary into something unique.

As a long time semi-retired art educator for public and private schools, it is a honor and privilege to facilitate for any one's imagination, including mine.  Having been involved in the arts most of my life, I am always curious to explore various mediums and learn through connecting my heart, hands, and mind. As I create, I laugh a lot. I cannot take my art too seriously as I become a child myself. I am grateful, curious, and still exploring.
