Subject: Sinkhole
To: mattlapine@gmail.com
Hi Matt,
Just a quick update. The cause of this sinkhole is still a bit of a
mystery. We have received great information from some long-time Vuecrest
residents about groundwater issues in the past and old wooden water lines
that certainly could be contributing factors!
Tomorrow we will have a contractor on-site. First order work will be to
secure the existing utilities in the area. We’re going to fill in the hole
to sufficient depth to support a sewer line that is currently exposed in
the gap. We also want to make sure that we don’t slough off enough
material to expose the AC water main in the area. Then we’ll be opening up
the area under controlled processes to get a better idea of what’s going on
at depth. (The bottom of the hole is +/- 16’ below grade.) If all goes
well we’ll make our fix and be out of there next week. If we run into
problems I’ll send word your way as to what we’re finding and what we’ll be
doing about it.
Please pass along our thanks for your community’s patience in this! We
continue to ask you to avoid this area as work progresses.
