Subject: do not reply* - THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING!
Dear Michelle,
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.
To all Ironman Lake Placid 2015 Volunteers:
THANK YOU for volunteering for the most amazing event of our year in Lake Placid! You are making a huge difference for the 2,500 athletes who will be racing. For those who return year after year, you are amazing and deserve a very special thanks!
We are still somewhat short of volunteers in a few areas. If necessary, we may ask a few people to move around a bit during race day. We know you'll be more than happy to help out with this if called upon! :)
For those who plan to register for 2016 Ironman Lake Placid on the Monday following the race, heres the lowdown:
All volunteers for 2015 are able to line up and register for the following years race BEFORE THE GENERAL PUBLIC. Ironman does not guarantee any volunteer that you will get a spot for next years race.
That said, no volunteer in the past 16 years has been refused registration, so please dont worry about this element.
ALL VOLUNTEERS SIGNING UP FOR 2016 RACE MUST BE WEARING THEIR VOLUNTEER T-SHIRTS TO GET IN LINE! This is your "ticket" to advance registration before the public. This is not negotiable if you forget.
REGULAR VOLUNTEERS WANTING TO SIGN UP FOR THE IRONMAN LAKE PLACID 2016 RACE:
Registration begins shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday, July 27th. A line forms beginning at midnight Sunday night - the line forms at the box office area under the overpass at the Olympic Center (Corner of Cummins Road and Main St). At midnight the doors will be opened so volunteers can sleep inside while waiting in line. You are NOT REQUIRED to be in line at midnight. Every year some volunteers feel the need to line up to be first to register, but this is NOT necessary.
You can join the line in the morning. Remember, no volunteer has ever been refused registration. We have provided for indoor waiting through the night to allow those who CHOOSE to be in line the ability to get out of the elements and sleep on the floor in the hallways of the Olympic Center. Volunteers will start filing into registration immediately following the SPEEDPASS volunteers, shortly after 8 a.m.
SPEEDPASS VOLUNTEERS:
Line up at 8 a.m.Monday morning FOR SPEEDPASS HOLDERS ONLY in front of the OLYMPIC ARENA 1932 RINK ENTRANCE sign - 2610 Main St. You MUST be wearing your speedpass wristband provided to you by your captain! At 8 a.m. SHARP, The volunteer director will walk the speedpass volunteers upstairs to register first. The SPEEDPASS was created several years ago to incentivize the signup of volunteers to certain shifts that are traditionally difficult to fill. This is the reward for filling those shifts that are not the easiest.
DON'T MISS OUR VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION PARTY!
If you are still in town on Monday night, July 27th, please dont miss our Volunteer Appreciation Party! Beginning at 5 pm there will be FREE skating and FREE skate rentals, along with fun & games, in our 1932 Olympic Arena at 2610 Main St. Enter through the doors with the sign above saying Olympic Center 1932 Rink Entrance. Following the skating party, at 6 pm well open the doors for the Volunteer Party right across the hall from the 32 Rink. Ironman will provide a great dinner with open bar, prizes and more fun stuff, including the 2015 Ironman Volunteer video, aid station awards and announcement of our 2015 Captain of the Year. This is our appreciation party for the amazing people volunteering for Ironman Lake Placid 2015.
Again, THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING. We couldnt make this race happen without all of YOU!
See you Ironman Week!
Sue Cameron
Ironman Lake Placid Volunteer Director
