Windsor Gulls

From Patrick and Maxson Comins:

1/2/09 - Windsor, Windsor Landfill -- At least 3 first-cycle ICELAND GULLS.

Max got great looks of at least one of the Iceland Gulls.  Probably double the number of gulls that were there last week (~1500, but I'm a poor estimator).  Aside from the Iceland Gulls I did have a few funky birds, including a flyover of a first-cycle Thayer's candidate, but unfortunately I wasn't able to relocate it.  Frosty silvery-gray wingtip below with no black in wingtips below, smallish compared with Herring Gulls and a dark tail and secondary bar from above.  Didn't get a great look at the upper primaries.  Also a funky first-cycle herring-type.  Very white headed and checkered with a jet black bill, but an all dark tail a-la smithsonianus.  Kind of reminiscent of a Lesser-black Backed, including sleek and long-winged appearance, but rump too dark and lacking the dark greater covert bar.  Would have liked to have gotten some photos of it, but a dump truck came and scared up the flock as I was trying.  Maybe just a funky Herring Gull, maybe something more interesting.
