Issue with broker and survey

A good friend put his sailboat on the market a few years ago.  The broker
found a buyer and things went well through the sea trial.  Much to my friend's
surprise, the survey revealed a very minor case of blisters.  The buyer
proceeded to use these as a tool to negotiate a major price reduction - a
reduction of about four times the estimated cost of a blister repair job.  My
friend would have nothing to do with it and the deal fell through. My friend
hauled the boat, peeled the gel coat, dried the laminate and did a blister
repair over the next several months.  The broker had another potential buyer
who watched the blister job as well as some rerigging and when it was
completed, he was convinced that the boat was as good or better than new and
he bought the boat.
