Navionics App for iPhone / iPad

The other thing I did while on vacation was download the current Navionics
U.S. / Canada iPhone app, which also runs on the iPad ($15 in the App
Store, the dedicated iPad app is $50 as I recall) and download the chart
data for the entire Great Loop.  Then I started entering routes.    Each
route can only have 99 waypoints (hey, this is a $15 program for your
phone, not a $5,000 dedicated chartplotter!), but you can have unlimited
routes, so I just started a new route where each prior one ended.  This app
and the Navionics chart data are AMAZING.  It has ALL the chart data needed
for the entire Loop.  So far, I have entered routes for Cape May to
Georgian Bay.  The detail on the Trent-Severn is wonderful. The chart data
is the same data that is on the expensive Navionics CF cards that my
Raymarine C-80 uses, and running on the iPad in 2x mode, it has great
resolution. I will probably spring for the dedicated iPad version when we
Loop.  I had used the prior U.S. only Navionics app on the boat on our
iPad, and it worked great with the built-in GPS, so delighted they have
added Canada!  Highly recommended!
