Observers:
Visitors:
Dave and Linda, as well as Chip for Colchester were welcomed visitors to
the tower today.
Weather:
Today had overcast skies and gusty winds from the west similar to
yesterday. The sun never did make an appearance. Temperatures were around
-2 C but felt much more comfortable in the afternoon, compared with the
previous day and a half as the winds diminished.
Raptor Observations:
A Coopers Hawk and a Merlin were observed flying past the tower today.
These individuals were also caught, banded and released by one of our
licensed banders. [5] Red-tailed Hawks were also observed and again, they
seemed to struggle with the west winds. Bald Eagles were seen throughout
the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Several large flocks of Canvasback were flying over the lake, even
extending over the tower and were estimated at approximately 8000
individuals. What a sight! Many gulls were flying over today including a
large number of Herring Gulls.
