I don't know if the original poster was chastised for this message but I certainly was! So
far I've had the following:
Public complaints about this post.
Private complaints about this post.
Requests that the post be removed from the archive.
Requests that the poster be banned from TWL.
I'm not going to do anything drastic for what was, in my estimation, merely a thoughtless
mistake. We are taking what steps we can to avoid having this sort of thing in the future.
Now for the commentary: This post was essentially cross-posted from the
[ChesapeakeCruising] Yahoo group so I took the time to look at their archive. The message
that was forwarded to TWL was obviously spam and, at the time I looked, virtually every
other post in the current month was also spam. In fairness, I should say that there are
legit posts in previous months.
Compare that to TWL. We've got what may be the most strictly enforced rules of any similar
group on the Internet and that enforcement has caused hard feelings from time to time.
OTOH: The fact that our members are, almost without exception, willing to stay within the
rules has resulted in a list that is readable, cordial, on-topic, helpful, and growing.
I can't guarantee that the next message on the list won't be spam or offensive or
otherwise out of place but I think we can all take pride in the quality of information
presented here.
