I have  Niaid stabilizers on our 44 ft. Atlantic and due to the location
on the hull I have a difficult time of understanding how they could be
broken off in a  simple grounding.  Perhaps if it was a hard grounding and
the tide left your vessel high and dry and she rolled over on her side, a
fin could be broken or severly damaged. The fins on our boat are located
about half way back on the hull and  an estimated, 15 to 18 inches
underwater. It would be far more likely that they be broken by a misplaced
sling when hauling the boat.  Just for the record, stabilizers are very
useful for increasing comfort on the Inland waterways by reducing roll
caused by thwe wakes of vessels you meet or vessels that are overtaking.
