A http://e0pc.com/newreality.php  website that lists which states are
doing what about ethanol blended fuel, and a list of stations where ethanol
free fuel is available:

http://e0pc.com/newreality.php  is an excellent explanation of the ethanol
blending problem and an identification of the six states where blending is
mandatory.

An * after a state's name indicates that the state has a mandatory ethanol
blending law, usually E10.

It is easy to get confused by the various laws, such as "mandatory
ethanol blending state" laws.  While, according to the list provided
by Marilyn, Georgia is NOT a mandatory ethanol blending state, an
area with a radius of, I believe, about 45 miles around Atlanta IS a
mandatory blending area.  One can find ethanol free fuel in Georgia,
but not close to Atlanta.

I am sure there are other areas like Atlanta in the country.  For
example, there are only five filling stations (in remote cities) in
California that offer non-ethanol fuels, although California is not a
mandatory ethanol blending state.

Ah, well...

Can anyone explain the reasons for mandatory ethanol blending?  As I
understand it, when all input factors are considered, current methods of
producing ethanol require the use of more petroleum input energy than
the the resulting ethanol replaces.

At the risk of bringing down the wrath of the moderator for
a political comment, I will unequivocally state that it IS a
matter of politics where a certain political group kowtows
to a group of "greenie wienies" who are under the mistaken
notion that somehow burning alcohol made from corn is the
way to make the world a better place.

My opinion - its a boondoggle that the farmers benefit from. The guvment
loves it because it collects more taxes from the sheeple but they sheeple
dont realize it.

Ethenol has lower BTU value than straight gasoline. Therefore you get less
mileage. Therefore, at the end of the year, you buy more gallons. The state
and federal taxes are PER GALLON. So at the end of the year you have paid
MORE TAXES without an obvious TAX INCREASE.
