Hello everyone,

I am a new subscriber.  I own two power catamarans, a 34 ft and a 26 ft
Glacier Bay.  I am looking for a boat with more of a cruiser configuration.

I have been looking at some information sent to me about the "Quantum
4000" but can find nothing except what is on their website and the
brochures they have e-mailed me.

Does anyone have any knowledge or information about this boat, the
company, etc.

Thanks in advance.

In response to your interest in the Quantum: We looked at several examples
while in New Zealand last year. They are very high-end, beautifully finished
and pricey. The yard is in Tauranga. The display boat in Aukland "displayed"
a major seperation between the cabin top and flybridge. Other than that,
everything looked stunning. Flybridge and express versions are available.
This may not be the ideal cruising cat, but it will impress at the yacht
club.

Bert,

Thank you very much for you response.

We are looking for a boat we can take extended cruises in, but which can
also move along faster than a "pure" cruising boat or trawler.  This
boat seems to have a good combination of the two elements.

Ben --- I had a 40 ft Sports Express version of the Quantum ( was sold here as the Haynes Signature) out for a spin  in Australia last year and found it to perform very well. We even crossed the bar on a day when no one else was game and it handled the confused sharp waves extremely well. The boat had shaft drive Volvos in it and it responded well to the throttle.

As someone said before the boat showed well , "was wife friendly",  but had a pretty steep price tag for a 40 ft'r!! My only concern with the boat was the height of the tunnel. In order to make room for nice staterooms up front the tunnel height was sacrificed to some degree. I must say though that we did not encounter any significant slamming during our half day session even though the boat was loaded with options and it was pretty rough out on the water that day!!

One neat thing I liked on this boat was the walkthrough design through the shower to get to the engine room. The shower compartment in the head had a large hatch into the machinery section of the engine room. The engine could also be accessed through a hinged hatch in the cockpit floor as well giving very good engine and machinery access.

Again like someone said earlier, it is not a live aboard as storage is limited but on the other hand is more than adequate for a lengthy trip!!

All in all it is a nice boat and I wouldn't mind finding it under my Xmas tree!!

Cheers!
