Another massive reverse migration! An estimated 350-400 birds per minute
were streaming south
off Fish Point since 7 a.m (and until at least 11 a.m.). The best bird of
the morning was found by Paul Jones just after 7, a
WESTERN TANAGER, just coming into full male plumage. He found it again at
11:15 a.m. The
bulk of the migrants were warblers including 15+ BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS, 1
GOLDEN-
WINGED WARBLER, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 1 KENTUCKY WARBLER, and
2 HOODED WARBLERS. A RED-NECKED GREBE and a 2nd year GLAUCOUS GULL flew
north past the tip. Also flying south were large numbers of CEDAR WAXWINGS,
RUBY-
THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, SCARLET TANAGERS, and six species of vireos. In Fox
Pond at Fish Point there was a singing MARSH WREN. An AMERICAN BITTERN was
heard in the pond
yesterday.
