To add to Tina’s post this morning, we saw an immature Red-headed Woodpecker this afternoon as we kayaked on Whalebone Creek in East Haddem (just south of the ferry terminal). We watched it preen, feed and fly from dead tree to dead tree near the mouth of the creek where it empties into the CT River. We last saw it fly away from us in the direction of Ferry Road, so it could be resighted there. We recall there was a bird that wintered in this area several years ago. Full description on eBird.
