EGL *had its world premiere at the Social World Film Festival in Italy where it won best director. Now the Tacoma Film Festival will be showing it. On July 11, 2021, thousands of Cubans from all age ranges took to the streets across the island to protest for libertad (freedom). As a last plea for help, hundreds of Cubans risked it all and exposed the world through social media the inhuman conditions they are living in on the island, in hopes someone would hear them and help. Most of these posts have since been taken down and many of these people have been sentenced to years in prison for simply crying out for help. I was able to get a connection with someone in Cuba who was willing to talk to me. For months we communicated via apps where he also sent me exclusive footage and interviews. From this along with a number of social media posts from Cubans on the island, *ELLOS GRITAN LIBERTAD *was born.
