This morning at Bauer Farm in Madison I found an amazing Fall count of 54 species. Seen were 10 sparrow species, including four White-crowned Sparrows, one being an adult, and a LINCOLN’S SPARROW. Other highlights included numerous Purple Finches, a BROWN THRASHER and a DICKCISSEL.
I also found yet another CLAY-COLORED SPARROW - it seems that it’s a really good year for this species and they are being seen all over the state - with reports coming in from UCONN, Sherwood Island and Hammonasset Beach State Park, all within the last day or two.
A notable miss today was Junco, which would’ve made my sparrow count go to 11, as they say, and I probably could’ve found a Tree Swallow or two had I spent more time scanning the skies - but I was too busy enjoying the sparrow feast!
My eBird report has photos and sound recording for some of the birds: https://ebird.org/checklist/S279614718
