Concerti tonight by Johann Sebastian Bach on May 23, 2019
/ Jonathan Oddie

This is an amazing program. We hope you can come tonight!

In our most ambitious Salish Sea Early Music Festival undertaking of the
season,?? four?? awe-inspiring masterworks to are be performed this
eveinng at St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church.

The uplifting, open-textured and dance-inspired Suite in B Minor for
flute and strings offers many contrasting and recognizable melodies. One
of the most sought-after violin concerti of any era is theConcerto in A
Minor
for violin and orchestra. The Fifth Brandenburg Concerto
epitomizes the power of art as it resonates to the pure joy of human
experience. These three monumental works are often to be heard for good
reason, but less familiar to many of us is the Triple Concerto in A
Minor
, which shares Brandenburg 5's instrumentation (solo harpsichord,
violin and flute with orchestra) and is likewise predominantly a
harpsichord concerto but even more so.More difficult but equally
transporting and reflecting a more serious focus, it exhibits a higher
level of adventurousness harmonically. The Seattle Symphony recently
offered a rare performance on modern instruments, but ours is the first
ever in the Northwest on period instruments as far as we are aware.

We are privileged to perform these four intensely exciting and deeply
moving works and will be very pleased to share them with you tomorrow!
