Could you please post the following:
After saving our pennies for 30 years, my wife and I are going to be
looking to buy an early ('89-'91) Nordhavn 46. (Can't afford any of the new
ones) Has anyone heard of any special problems to look for when starting
the shopping process? Obviously, we plan on having a survey done, but I
plan to do a thorough check myself first. The only difference I have found
so far is that the early models had four smaller fuel tanks rather than two
larger tanks on the new models. Since the smaller tanks give added
flexibility, I don't have a problem with that (unless I don't pay attention
and run a tank dry before switching!)
Any help would be appreciated.
Tom
Tom,
As the owner of an N-46 (#57) I can mention several things for your
consideration. There are 2 basic layouts - one with the main stateroom
forward (for day trips and light weather use - in my opinion) one with a mid
ship main stateroom (better for heavy weather and ocean crossing) This also
entails a two staircase design with the mid main so that the forward cabin
has a separate access from the pilot house.
The galley layouts vary from a "J" galley early to a "I" galley later. The
salon tables vary in style.
All of the senior Nordhavn staff know EVERY boat in there head - it is
amazing. There are very supportive of used Nordhavn owners, ask them for
help both before and after purchase.
The www.yachtworld.com site usually has several 46's offered for sale, some
by one of the three Nordhavn offices, some by others.
We are currently cruising the Med after an Atlantic crossing last year.
I have internet access from time to time is you have other questions.
