Hello Gators,After you read this, if you are interested in participating, please reply back before Thanksgiving (so we have some numbers and can start to negotiate hotel and race entry rates) and include...Event type: Olympic and/or HalfParticipation: Individual or Relay (or both); also indicate if you have a team or are a "free agent" and would like to be matched up with a team.  Note that we will likely assemble one or two fast teams, but the goal is more about having a fun weekend and less focus on competing, so we'll have teams with all ranges of ability.Number of attendees in your group (e.g. "I need a room for two nights for 2 adults, 2 kids")Commitment level: "Count us in" or "Maybe"... For the "Maybes", we'll be looking for full commitment in the December/January timeframe.
Over Labor Day weekend each year there is a "triathlon festival" at Lake George, NY that includes events on Saturday and Sunday...Saturday: Kid's "Splash N Dash" event (swim/run) and Olympic triathlon (0.9mi swim, 25 mi bike, 10k/6.2 mi run)Sunday: Half Ironman distance triathlon (1.2 mi swim, 56 mi bike, 13.1 mi run)Both the Olympic and Half triathlons include a relay option.
In 2013 a group of Gator families participated in the event with four half relay teams.  It was a great time and it seems like there is a lot of momentum to return for next year's festival, which takes place on Saturday, 9/3/16 and Sunday, 9/4/16.  The e-mail below this contains some additional details and here are some good reasons why you might want to consider attending...Accommodations: Most of us stayed at the Fort William Henry Resort, which is on a hill overlooking Lake George and is within walking distance of both the triathlon transition area and downtown Lake George... http://www.fortwilliamhenry.com/.  Rates range from $170/night - $400/night as there are a variety of accommodation types available.  And if we have a large group attending, we might be able to negotiate a discount.Timing: Since the event takes place Labor Day weekend when most people are off work/school on Monday, it's possible to participate without taking any extra time off work/school... Travel there on Saturday morning (it's about a 4:30-5:00 drive) and return home on Monday.Relay Teams: We can put you on a relay team or you can put your own team together.  And you have the option of participating in the Olympic or the Half relay (or both?).Individual Race: You can also do your own race if you'd like to take on an entire event on your own... Olympic or Half.  You could even mix and match... e.g. Olympic individual on Saturday and Half relay on Sunday.Convenience: As mentioned under "Accommodations", the hotel is within walking distance of everything... Race and downtown area... So you can just park and leave your car there until you leave on Monday.Club Party: On the Sunday evening following the 2013 event, we were able to arrange for a catered dinner on a deck at the hotel overlooking the lake.  It was a great time and we'd likely do it again in 2016.
And here's a YouTube video about the event... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsx9Q-AuAEA
Hope you can make it!
