There is also a neutral avenue if a person has concerns... the HOA management. That is one if their functions.

This is also part of the reason why I set mine to go off between 1-5am... so as not to offend others... also add Green Gobbler one packet/month (at least)... sometimes that's not enough due to usage/laudry... sometime I add 2... Just also a way to avoid these issues.  Surely most people are not up at these hours to get offended.

As I understand it, we are required to have a contract with a septic tank service to avoid these problems. Our company told us that the sprinkler water should not ever smell vile if the tank is maintained correctly.  If they smell, they are releasing nasty stuff into the air. This is never acceptable at any time of day or night.

As I understand it, you are correct.  Majority of the time the smell comes from the lack of the good bacteria that dissolves the solids and/or no chlorine/disinfectant tablets.  Generally, it's the lack of bateria... which can be caused by,

  1. Your usage of Anti-bacterial soaps2. High water usage which then "flushes" the good bacteria out of the tank to the sprinklers thereby decreasing your bacteria population3. Your aerator is not working to help foster growth of the bacteria.
These good bacteria helps "eat away/dissolves" the solids in your septic tank, that is why you need to add the packets once a month or more dependent on your water usage and type of soap (if you use anti-bacterial soaps, you may want to add more than once a month.  reduction of anti-bacterial soap helps to increase the population.
heavy cleaning and use of cleaning/disinfectant agents such as toilet bowl cleaners, ammonia, and the likes does not bode well to maintaining the bacteria population... so if you happen to do heavy cleaning this week (let's say)... then after a few days add a packet of green gobbler in to restore the bacteria population... why wait a few days?  to allow the concentration of your cleaning agents to dissipate so that it's not harmful to the new bacteria you are adding in...
When I saw this post... I didn't care who it was... I went ahead and dropped in a packet of Green Gobbler anyway... a package costs about 12 bucks at home depot there are 6 packets for "6 months" worth of treatment.
Let''s face it non of us goes out there to smell our septic sprinkler sprayers regularly, I know I don't... so if it starts to smell, let your neighbors know and don't take it personally... let's help each other keep tabs on it... I know if I get a doorbell ring saying that my sprayer is starting to stink... I will say thank you and know to add 2 packets in right away...
    Sunny

As I understand it, you are correct.  Majority of the time the smell comes from the lack of the good bacteria that dissolves the solids and/or no chlorine/disinfectant tablets.  Generally, it's the lack of bateria... which can be caused by, 1. Sunny -----Original Message----- From: Steve & Shannon Jackson via Discussion <discussion@lists.limestoneranchhoa.com> To: Limestone Ranch HOA discussion <discussion@lists.limestoneranchhoa.com> Cc: Steve & Shannon Jackson <sljacksonfamily@yahoo.com> Sent: Fri, Jan 29, 2021 10:18 pm Subject: Re: [Limestone Ranch Discussion] Septic Tank more than Stanks As I understand it, we are required to have a contract with a septic tank service to avoid these problems. Our company told us that the sprinkler water should not ever smell vile if the tank is maintained correctly.  If they smell, they are releasing nasty stuff into the air. This is never acceptable at any time of day or night.
