Calling all artists!

Seeking artists who work with existing or "found" materials for an
exhibition at the City of Tacoma's EnviroHouse.

Background

The City of Tacoma's EnviroHouse is a permanent model home showcasing
green building and natural landscape ideas, materials and techniques to
create a healthy home and planet. Featuring the latest advances in green
building design and construction, the EnviroHouse champions the benefits
of sustainable living and building practices to homeowners, builders,
suppliers, landscapers, real estate agents and the general public,
highlighting readily available products for new and existing homes and
yards.

The EnviroHouse is located at the City of Tacoma Landfill, which
receives a significant number of visitors daily. The EnviroHouse hours
are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
The house is staffed when open.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: November 21, 2008

Notification to artists: Dec. 19, 2008

Dates of exhibit I:                          Jan 15, 2009-May 18, 2009

Opening/artists reception:                      Jan. 15, 2009

Dates of exhibit II:                          May 21, 2009-Sep 14, 2009

Types of artwork desired

Because the EnviroHouse is a model home, functional items in addition to
2-dimensional and 3-dimensional fine art is desired. All artwork must
include some form of recycled or "found" materials.

  • 2-dimensional artwork

Any 2-dimensional artwork must be prepared for immediate installation.
Artist must provide appropriate hanging cleats, wires, and/or frames.
The EnviroHouse staff will direct the installation of the exhibit and
will provide standard hanging hooks.

  • 3-dimensional work

Sculptures will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine
appropriate and safe locations for installation.

  • Functional work

Examples of functional work could include furniture items (lamps, coat
stands, chairs, etc.), clothing, purses and jewelry, etc. Works would be
displayed in-situ as if they were part of a real home.

Submission Requirements

  1.     Resume, bio, and artist statement including artist's name,
    

address, phone, and e-mail at the top of each page.

  1.     Up to 10 digital images of work you would like to display
    

(JPEG of TIF format). Please submit only work that is

available for display.

  1.     Image description sheet. This sheet should accompany your
    

images and include the title, dimensions, materials, and the recycled
materials and/or processes used for each image submitted. Please include
your name, address, phone, and e-mail at the top of the image
description sheet.

  1.     Completed and signed Hold Harmless Agreement (found at
    

www.cityoftacoma.org/EnviroHouse, click "Art").

  1.     Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (metered envelopes
    

are not acceptable) if you wish your materials to be returned to you.

A panel of representatives from the local arts community, and from the
funding partners of the EnviroHouse will select finalists and pieces for
display. Finalists will be asked to bring in actual work before final
selection is made to determine quality, scale and appropriateness for
the space.
