Hello Ontario Birders,

Hope everyone is enjoying the winter listing season. I wanted to update
people about how the Ontario Winter List is shaping out for 2019-2020. The
current list total sits at a cool 200.  To give some perspective the final
2018-2019 List was 203, and the final 2017-2018 list was 200.  The average
number of species for the last 12 years is 204. Given there is almost
another month left a few more species could be added.

Some of the additions since my last update on Dec. 29 2019, are Vesper
Sparrow (near Rondeau), Fish Crow (Niagara), Hoary Redpoll (Smooth Rock
Falls CBC), Eared Grebe (Bruce Peninsula), Swainson's Thrush (Toronto CBC),
Brant (Smith Falls), Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (Sioux Lookout) and Palm
Warbler (Kingston).

By this time in the year most of the common winter birds have been
observed, but we are missing some of the uncommon winter birds seen in
previous years.  Some of these uncommon birds missing from the list right
now include Indigo Bunting (seen 7/12 last winters), Lincoln's Sparrow
(8/12), Yellow Warbler (8/12), Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher (9/12), and Eurasian
Wigeon (8/12).

The list can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/myyulvs . I try to update
the spreadsheet every couple of days or whenever I hear of a new
addition. Please let me know if you hear of a new addition or any
other correction to the spreadsheet. Thank you to everyone who has
notified me of omissions.

Good birding,
Todd Hagedorn
