To All -
With three Sunday races to go, attached are the season racing results to
date. As usual, please let me know of any errors or omissions.
Some observations:
At the start of the season we had two non-spinnaker groups divided by PHRF
(less than <187 and > 187). However, the less than 187 group expanded to 17
boats over the season meaning that a DNC (Did Not Compete) was worthy of 18
points. Ouch. Since all 17 boats started at the same time, and raced on the
same course, I divided the group into B and C Divisions splitting the PHRFs
at 172. On one hand, changing the scoring so late in the season could be
construed as unfair after completion of 90% of the racing season. On the
other hand, leaving the system the way it was seemed unfair to everyone in
the group. If you are one of those affected, please let me know if you
object. If there are enough negative voices we can change the scoring back
to the original method.
Statistics to date:
All told we have had only 28 races this season out of a possible 50 (three
still to go). That is the worst record of completion in memory. Wednesday
night racing completed only 11 races, and attendance was down to 24 boats
(from 30 last year).
The good news is that those who raced three times on Sundays received free
t-shirts, and that offer still holds for the remaining races of the year! As
you can see from studying the Racing Results, there is room for change in
the standings based on the current numbers. So grab your crew and plan on
racing for the next three weekends. Fall winds and cool temperatures can
mean wonderful sailing on our river.
