Pulled the aforementioned alternator this morning with the idea of cleaning
the "R" or tach blade. The alternator shop is a 10 minute drive away so I
stopped by to have them check it. It's bad. I've dealt with these guys for
years. The shop doesn't look like much but they're good and they're honest.
If they say it's bad, it's bad.
The owner is supposed to call me with an estimate for overhaul.
Hope that solves the problem.
My advice? Repair/replace the wire on the "R" blade. Clean blade and
replace/clean the plug itself. If that doesn't solve the problem, get the
alternator checked.
Now, when I put that rebuilt alternator back on there and it doesn't work,
I'll be back on with the questions again.
Regards.
