I am a Loop veteran and am now planning an Upper Mississippi River trip
this summer.  I am currently in Milwaukee and plan to be in Chicago for
the 4th of July, then heading to the Mississippi.  I've been south of
Grafton, but not north, save for a few small boat excursions over the
years from Wisconsin.

I would like to be in contact with someone(s) with experience and
knowledge of services, anchorages, etc.  I plan to go as far as possible
on the Mississippi, i.e. downtown Minneapolis and also the 15 or so
miles up the Minnesota River and the St Croix to Stillwater, MN.

Please email me if you are interested in sharing your knowledge.
Thank you.

Anyone cruising the lower Hudson River this weekend might check out
the Hudson River Festival on June 21, 22, and 23. This is a big
Woodstocklike party held at Croton Park. It was started a number of
years ago by the late singer Pete Seger and has been held annually in
several locations. If you attended Woodstock (or wanted to) it is not
to be missed. Anchoring is free in the bay north of Croton Point. Its
the best anchorage in the Hudson with 8' of water covering a hard sand
bottom. You can dinghy the short distance to the park or to the Croton
town dock. Croton has excellent restaurants and shopping. Here is the

Larry,
Before we did the loop in our 36’ trawler, we did the route you are talking about in our 22’ Boston Whaler. We started and ended at Prescott and camped aboard under the cavass for our nights onboard…like tenting at anchor. We anchored or pulled up on sand spits and had a great time. This was about 8 years ago. I checked on Garmin Blue Chart, and active captain seems to have pretty good info for this area.
But…a couple things… The Minnesota river was nothing but a muddy canal with some views of the Minneapolis Airport and unless you have somewhere in particular you would like to visit, you may want to skip that part of the trip. The St Croix was beautiful with good fishing, nice beaches to play on, and good restaurants. My info would be very dated, but again, it looks like active captain is up to date. A word of caution…the St Croix is a MADHOUSE on nice summer weekends. Unless you enjoy huge crowds on the water, stick to the weekdays and don’t travel after dark.
