Working on a tiny scale — ranging in size from an index card to a mini
tablet — Massey synthesizes big questions about how to be present in a busy
world and the role of art in healing.
“After a series of personal challenges, “I began stitching as a form of
personal meditation,” she says. “I began to stitch to become quiet and
present ... to listen to myself ... to feel. I stitched to relearn how to
put one foot in front of the other ... to become whole. I continue to
stitch so I can slow down and be present for myself. “ | From the Artist’s
Statement
Reception Thursday, February 21, 5–8 p.m. MINKA will be open regular hours
before the reception, noon to 5 p.m.

MEDITATIONS IN THREAD | Susan Massey
This Thursday at MINKA, meet Tacoma artist *Susan Massey *as she presents a
new series of textile art pieces, "Meditations in Thread". Working on a
miniaturized scale — the smallest work is the size of a business card —
Massey synthesizes big questions about how to be present in a busy world,
and the role of art in healing.
Following a series of personal challenges, “I began stitching as a form of
personal meditation,” she says. “I began to stitch to become quiet and
present ... to listen to myself ... to feel. I stitched to relearn how to
put one foot in front of the other ... to become whole. I continue to
stitch so I can slow down and be present for myself. “
MINKA will be open 12-5 on Thursday, Feb. 21; artist reception is 5-8.
