Today Bob Tyler, Margaret Liubavicius, Jenny Bull and I birded Ward’s, Algonquin and Snake Islands and though migration still seems slow and a little behind schedule following is some of the birds we did find. Great Egrets, Bald Eagle, Cooper’s and Red-tailed Hawks, Common Nighthawk, Chimney Swifts, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 3 Belted Kingfishers together, Eastern Wood-Pewees, Yellow-bellied, Least, Willow and Great-crested Flycatchers, 9 Red-breasted Nuthatches, White-breasted Nuthatches, 19 House Wrens, (probably family groups), Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Gray Catbirds, Warbling and Red-eyed Vireos, Redstarts, Nashville, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Pine, Bay-breasted and Blackpoll Warblers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and Baltimore Orioles, most of the Orioles were on Algonquin Island. ----A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was again seen in the area that we found it or different one on Wednesday the 26th. This bird was found today by a couple of other birders who passed the sighting info along to us. The area is between the Island Church and the Main Road (just south of the boardwalk). Note:- Both washrooms are open on Ward's as is the one at the city side of the docks but the washroom on the ferry is closed due to Corvid. Some but not all of the water fountains are working but you can obtain water in the washrooms. There is also a washroom at the Island Fire Station west of the ferry dock. There are no washrooms or fountains on Algonquin Island and no washrooms on Snake Island but on Snake Island, there’s a water drinking fountain and a water fountain for filling a bucket or pail plus there are 4 Fire Pits and 4 Picnic Sites. I don't know if a permit is required but you may want to check at https://www.toronto.ca/data/parks/prd/facilities/complex/3536/index.html The Riviera Café just east of the bridge onto Algonquin Island (west of the ferry dock) is open 7 days a week but this could change so you may want to check at https://www.islandriviera.com/ The Island Café straight out from the ferry dock is closed until further notice.
