Other things to consider are efficiency and lumens produced per watt of power used...
For small task lighting, such as under counters, reading lamps, bathroom, stairs, etc., the 3 watt LED is the way to go... The house batteries will seem like superman when the current draw is reduced so dramatically by focused LED's in place of a larger incandescent bulb...
For an anchor light and running lights the LED lamp is quickly becoming the standard... Lower current draw for a given light level and long, long, long 'bulb' life, out weigh the high initial cost... No more bosun chair up the mast every few months to change the anchor light... No hanging over the edge of the deck in the dark changing the running bulbs...
For lighting broader areas the DC fluorescent, usually 13 watt, fixture gives you more lumens per watt of power used than the equivalent lumens from LED's... In addition, LED's are not efficient at evenly lighting larger areas where fluorescent is... While the greater efficiency of DC fluorescent may seem counter intuitive, a bit of research will show you this is fact (I've done it and I leave it for the industrious to prove to themselves)...
For higher intensity lighting the Halogen bulb actually delivers more lumens per watt of power used than fluorescent or LED... This is usually the issue of flood lighting on the deck or a spot light for finding the inlet, i.e. lighting needs for the outside of the boat...
As the saying goes, it's horses for courses, i.e., not one horse for every course... The same goes for lighting... Pick the type of light fixture that is best for the task...
