Hello Gators,
See the request below from USA Triathlon seeking volunteers to staff a USAT
booth at the Rock N Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon expo taking place in
Center City next weekend on Friday 9/13 and Saturday 9/14.  I replied back
that we have many athletes involved that weekend in IRONMAN Atlantic City
70.3, which would make it difficult for us to support this event, but if
you are not participating in IM AC and would have an interest in supporting
USAT, particularly for the Saturday morning (9am-1:15pm) or Saturday
afternoon (1pm-5pm) shifts, please let me know and I can connect you with
USAT.

Hi Don

Happy Friday! We’re doing one last push for volunteer help at our
Philadelphia Rock ‘n Roll Expo next weekend. Our Saturday shifts are empty
right now, and we’d love to have a few people at the booth so we can
promote Triathlon in the Philadelphia community! We have a 9am-1:15pm and
1pm-5pm shift available. Below you will find the initial message we sent
out with all the details you’ll need. If you’re available to volunteer next
weekend, please let me know and I’ll get you set up with the volunteer
coordinator. Thank you for your help, and have a great weekend!

As you may know, USA Triathlon and IRONMAN teamed up to bring new athletes
into our great sport through a joint effort called Time to Tri
https://www.mytimetotri.com/. As part of the initiative, we created a
special expo presence at Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series events across the U.S.

In fact, there is a Rock ‘n Roll event coming to Virginia Beach and the
expo is being held from 8/30-8/31 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
We’re now reaching out to local club leaders like yourself to help us show
interested endurance athletes how anyone can become a triathlete. This
includes breaking down the three major barriers to entry:

  1. Swim Barrier: “I don’t know how to swim,” or “I’m afraid of open
    water.”

  2. Knowledge Gap: “I don’t know where to get started,” or “I could never
    finish a triathlon.”

  3. Perceived Expense: “I can’t afford to do this sport,” or “I don’t own
    a bike.”

We know that more triathletes come from the running community than anywhere
else. We’re asking you, and/or another qualified person you may know, to
help answer simple questions at the booth and share resources that might
inspire these runners to get their start in triathlon.

While Time to Tri recruits newbies, just as importantly it’s designed to
directly benefit you and the industry as a whole. So, by volunteering at
this expo, you have the opportunity to showcase your club to these would-be
first-timers as a way to help them start their triathlon journey. Check-out
this quick video to see what we mean.

As a participating club, we will include your information on a handout that
is given to all athletes who come through the Time to Tri booth. You can
also bring your own promotional materials to distribute, such as brochures
or flyers. To drive traffic, we also offer a sweepstakes in which athletes
can win an awesome triathlon starter kit: Quintana Roo bike, ROKA wetsuit
and swim gear, and Brooks running shoes.

We have several time slots available throughout the schedule to suit your
needs:
