Hi all,
Just was  wondering if anyone has ever seen a juvenile Bald Eagle with the thickly barred tail of an immature Golden Eagle but with an all brown body like a Golden?  According to my raptor books the juvenile golden can have no white markings on the underwings, but the juvenile bald always does and never has the thickly barred tail of the golden.
When leaving Pine Brook Park in Fairfield last weekend I came to the intersection of route 1 and Pine Brook and saw an eagle pretty low chasing a Herring Gull south over route 1.  They were maneuvering back and forth with the sun shining nicely on them so got good looks at them, but only for a few seconds when the light turned and I had to move.  I circled into the gas station and stopped but they were gone.  Immediate impression was Golden since there was no white underneith and the tail had a thick black band on a white tail, very noticeable when the eagle banked a few times.  It also seemed to be a thicker bodied bird like a bald, but that may have been an illusion.  Just wondering:-)
