I would hesitate to chuckle. This is a serious error.  I have had close calls in our extensive cruising especially in strange places with inadequate charts. My routine was to stop movement and radioed for help from the locals and CG if available. If that did the did not work out we lowered  the dingy and sounded the course. My 3rd rule is "never be on a schedule" which helped in keeping out of trouble. Perhaps the skipper was in a rush to go and did not pay attention. It happens, unfortunately and the result is what you posted.

Since our boat is a trawler with normal cruising speed ,we were able to avoid trouble
I presume the Pershing is a fast boat and the options are less to avoid a situation like you described.

For what it is worth.
