Visitors:
We had three brave visitors today, Nancy, Cathy and Nia! Thank you for
bundling up and spending time with us on the tower.
Weather:
A relatively chilly day on the tower with a full cloud cover all day and
winds blowing South-West at about 30km/h, which definitely cooled us down.
The rain held off, but we had some spitting of rain during some parts of
the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Not much flying today in this kind of wind. The day started out promising
with many Sharp-shined Hawks, and we ended with a daily total of 43
Sharp-shinned Hawks. The Turkey Vultures kept us busy as we counted 1,620
of them during the day. A few other species flew by including Harriers (3),
Red-tailed Hawks (7), Cooper's Hawks (3), Kestrels (2), a Merlin and a
Peregrine Falcon. In the afternoon, the raptor appearances were quite bleak
and no raptors flew in the last hour of our count.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not much else flying either today, yet we are still counting very high
number of ducks on the marsh. Highest counts are goin to the Gadwalls
(485), Widgeons (213), and Mallards (649).
We had a small group of songbirds circling the tower in the morning which
had Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglets, a Phoebe and Yellow-rumped Warblers.
We also counted a significant number of tree swallows flying and feeding
over the marsh through out the day.
Lastly, we only counted 503 Blue Jays, 30 Starlings, 22 Cedar Waxwings, and
8 Goldfinches.

Predictions:
Tomorrow we are expecting winds from the North-West! Northern winds have
eluded us for a while and we are really hoping they will along some buteos,
like Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks.
The temperature is expected to be similar to today but with more sun.
Should be a good day for hawk migration!
