Greetings birders,
Ten participants joined this field trip and persisted through much of the
wet and windy weather. The highlight was observing three BRANT (2 adults, 1
juvenile) feeding and roosting at close range at Cobourg Harbour, where we
also enjoyed excellent views of HORNED GREBES, BUFFLEHEADS, RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS, and an AMERICAN COOT. An adult GREAT Black-BACKED GULL roosted
on the far side of the harbour.
By the time we got to Presqu'ile, the weather was especially inclement, but
we traversed the Owen Point Trail and saw a group of four PINE SISKINS
feeding atop an Eastern White Cedar and then a small flock of eight
DUNLIN and two SANDERLINGS.
Off the Lighthouse and a private residence along Bayshore Road, we had
distant views of each of the three SCOTER species and closer views of more
Horned Grebes.
A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER made a brief appearance at a nearby feeder.
Thank you to those who attended and we'll hope for more favourable weather
next year.
Good birding!
Ian
