Storm plates

I have a small conversion I am putting together and plan to have storm plates for all my pilot house windows. My thought was to build the command bridge with aluminium framing and use the storm plates as the sides and front. The bridge to be the same dimensions as the wheel house so three pieces for the front and one each side. Some of my reasoning to reduce wind issues and weight topside in the conditions that require storm plates. Invader does not have the conventional west coast trawler wheelhouse. The front windows slope back.

Any thoughts from the list.
Materials I should use.
Is this simply a crazy idea?
