We went into Great Kills on May 30th our way north.

Here's my take on the current state of affairs at Great Kills (one of
our favorite stops when heading north or south along the east coast:

Great kills is a shadow of its former (pre-Sandy) self. Only a few small
boats are on moorings because the moorings haven't been checked and
repositioned, the RCYC docks are completely destroyed with no evidence
of rebuilding, the other yacht clubs seem to be operating at their docks
only, and the park docks (the far right side of the harbor) and building
are gone. Boats are piled up on the shore, both to the left and far
right of the entrance channel after entering the harbor. Not a pretty
picture.

It is apparent that a lot of work has been done to clean up Sandy's
aftermath, but a lot remains to be accomplished before Great Kills is
anywhere close to it's pre-Sandy vibrancy.
