SPECIAL PRESENTATION -- 2:00 PM, SUNDAY, APRIL 17

In conjunction with the premiere of a new video documentary about the
little-known role of NCR in World War II codebreaking, we're pleased to
announce that Tony Sale, authority on British codebreaking during WWII and
the leader of the "Colossus Rebuild Project" will make a special
presentation for Dayton-area hams and others interested in this fascinating
aspect of our history.

Tony's work on the Colossus, as well as his understanding of other WWII
codebreaking activities, has given him a well-deserved worldwide
reputation.  Colossus was a 1500 tube computing machine that read paper
tape at the astonishing rate of 5000 characters per second.  It was
designed to break the Lorenz teletype code used by Hitler and his top field
commanders during the latter part of the war.  Virtually all the
documentation for Colossus was destroyed after the war, and Tony and his
team built a new machine using nothing but a handful of photos and scraps
of schematics, along with the decades-old recollections of the few
remaining members of the design team.  Visit Tony's website at
http://www.codesandciphers.org.uk to learn more about Colossus and Tony's
other projects.

Tony will give a talk, and take your questions, at the ThinkTV TeleCenter
in Dayton, starting at 2:00 PM on Sunday.  All hams and other interested
folks are invited to attend.  RSVP to Fred Stone at w8lly@dayton.net is
appreciated, but not required.  Enter via front door which will be opened
at 1:30 PM.

The ThinkTV TeleCenter is located at 110 South Jefferson Street in Downtown
Dayton--on the southeast corner of Jefferson Street and Fourth
Street.  Free on-street parking is available on Sundays and paid parking is
available in the Dayton Transportation Center parking garage (enter on
Fifth Street just east of Jefferson Street.  For further information,
Contact Fred by email at w8lly@dayton.net or by phone at (937) 220-1686
(leave voicemail message if no answer).

Hope to see you there!

PS -- "Dayton Codebreakers" will first air on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:00 PM
on ThinkTV (Channel 16).  A special premiere is being held at 7:00 PM this
Friday, April 15 at Boll Theatre at the University of Dayton.

Just a reminder that there is going to be a really great presentation
tomorrow (Sunday) at 2:00PM at Channel 16.  Last night was the premiere
of the documentary, and it's great.  Tony Sale, our speaker on Sunday,
is a fascinating guy who's planning to give a technically-oriented talk
that should be right up the alley of our MVUS folks.

Please attend if you can; you won't regret it.
