We have had multiple reports of coyotes in the neighborhood, including a coyote being seen attacking a cat in a homeowner's backyard. Below are some recommendations from the City of Bellevue that will help keep Vuecrest safe from these coyotes:

  • Be extra alert if you walk throughout Vuecrest
  • Keep all trash securely in garbage cans
  • Keep dogs and cats indoors from dusk to dawn
  • Leash dogs while walking them
  • Never feed coyotes
  • Coyotes can transmit diseases and parasites to domestic dogs. Keep your dog's vaccinations up to date
  • If a coyote gets too close for comfort, be intimidating and identify yourself as a human by standing up, waving your hands above your head, and shouting. Throw rocks or sticks if you need to.
If a coyote is spotted being aggressive, please contact the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife by calling 360-902-2200.

During the winter months you will notice that Northwest Gardener (NWG) is on light duty. Services include bed maintenance, leaf cleanup, plant, and shrub care as well as litter control. Mowing of the esplanades will resume once it weather appropriate.
Speaking of lawn care, many neighbors are fighting a new European Chafer Beetle that feeds on grass roots while in its grub phase. The grubs attract racoons and crows which will dig up the grass to feed on the grubs. During the January board meeting, inquiries were made regarding the health of the esplanade grasses. So far, our esplanade grasses are unaffected by the beetle. NWG has noted that thick lawns with well-established roots, fertilized, watered, and aerated lawns seem to be more resistant to this pest. NWG is vigilant on our lawn care, and we hope that the measures taken will prevent the pest from infesting our common area lawns.
As we look towards spring, the Cherry Trees on the esplanade will be pruned, fertilized as well as treated for pests.

Trash/Recycle/Yard waste tote etiquette
Here's a few reminders regarding trash/recycle/yard waste tote etiquette in the Vuecrest community.

  • Totes should be put out the day before collection and then pulled back in the day after collection
  • Totes should be stored on your property in a place not visible from the street
  • Place totes at or nearest the end of your driveway for collection only
  • Secure all bin lids in the down position, especially the garbage bin to ensure lids are down and garbage is contained and helps keep birds and other critters from making a mess before collection
  • Ask a neighbor to put your totes out or bring them in if you are planning to be out of town
  • Never leave totes out on the street for an extended period
  • Promptly clean-up any trash or other debris that may have occurred near your property during collection day
