Anyone familiar with the anchorage just north of Navy Pier in Chicago
called the "Playpen?" If so, is there a dinghy landing anywhere close by
where we could go ashore leaving the dinghy for an evening dinner with
friends?

That anchorage can be VERY bouncy. Its open to the Lake. Would only use is
if the wind was coming WEST off the Illinois shore line making it flat.
Otherwise, you will have to go to the most expensive marina on the Loop:
DuSable Harbor Marina, expensive ($2.50/ft), no one helps docking, they
gouge  you for electricity. We stayed two nights and I couldn't wait to
leave. While in Chicago you will also have the pleasure of paying one of the
highest sales tax in America in Chicago: 9.5% on top if that, and applies to
everything you will buy during your stay.
Better make reservations at DuSable. They fill up. It's the best place to
get away from the constant waves from the lake.

Agree with comments about dusable and playpen.

Alternative: if you are yacht club member somewhere with potential for reciprocity, try chicago yacht club. In dusable harbor. Very nice.

We go there often as milwaukee yacht club members.

Btw milwaukee is nice inexpensive alternative to chicago. Come see us. If u want to see chicago by land amtrak train gets u there in 90 min to union station. ~$45 round trip. I take it all the time.

Feel free to email or call for more info if you desire.

If u are up here now do not ignore/bypass wisconsin side of lake including door county peninsula.

Good luck and safe travels.

Tranquillity.

I tried the yacht club....we have reciprocal privileges and they would not
even allow me to have an important package mailed there.
