Some ideas

Hi Neighbors
I have been trying to come up with a couple of ideas to help us engage while keeping our distance (sounds funny but life for now).  I know that no decision has been made about school yet but I can ONLY imagine how that must be challenging some of you.
We are going to have rainy days for the rest of the week, not a bad thing for our yards, but one of my ideas will have to wait until Monday.  So here goes with my ideas---

  1. If school is delayed next week,  I will put out a box/shelf of kid's books (maybe some grown up ones too).  Kind of a honor system library.  Take books, leave books.  I know there are many kids who like to pick out books to read and since some of the ones I have are "vintage" (at least in their world), there might be ones they have not read.
  2. The kids could help with a Make A Treat/Take a Treat.  We could do it like the Halloween Boo thing that has been done in the past.  Kid artwork encouraged. Also adult crafts! If we don't do an egg hunt, this might be a fun alternative.  Those wanting to participate could put out a sign.  What do you think?
  3. Call a teacher.  I know we have some current and past teachers and people with expertise in the neighborhood.  I would be willing to field questions about chemistry, sciences, and psychology.  I know that there is plenty of this online but sometimes a kid needs to be talked through things.  Maybe not needed but just a thought.
Other ideas?  Jed and I are trying to limit our chances of exposure so it has had me thinking!!!!
This is also a good time for me to update our list of resources, both within our neighborhood and those we wish to hire to work in our homes.  I will get back to you on that.  Be thinking though!
    Stay safe!Julia

Just to help everyone think through this and prepare. Although the schools are saying a week or two. Expect they will not resume this year. If we do nothing more than we are doing now for slowing the pandemic, the peak will hit about the middle of June based on the way it has moved through other countries. If we are able to flatten the curve by enforcing social separation to conserve healthcare resources, the peak will push to the right, which means as late as October. The real question for us is when and how school will resume next fall.

We’ve already been notified by Champion. Instructions will be online in their google classrooms. It started at 4 today. All subjects will not be immediately available.

We are going to treat like a regular school day. He gets up, does what work is available and move onto the next day. Boerne ISD very good when it come to getting things online.

If you don’t have internet access, they are allowing packet pick ups.  Check their website.

I think this may be easier for the older kids.  The younger ones may need more guidance from the parents.
