Let me second the recommendation for Global Yacht Fuel a worldwide fueling
agent. http://www.globalyachtfuel.net/index.htm
As head of the advance team for the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally, I made advance
arrangements through Global for duty free fuel for all 18 rally yachts in
Bermuda, Horta, and Gibraltar, and it worked out well. (One hitch: we knew
in advance that there was a minimum fuel requirement for duty free fuel in
the Azores, and not all rally yachts could take on that much, so smaller
yachts had to take on more expensive duty-paid fuel there.) Arranging to
refuel 18 yachts in a short port visit certainly brought some challenges,
especially in the Azores at the height of the season, but Global was able
to negotiate better prices that we could have gotten locally in all three
ports and it was comforting to know that the financial transaction was with
a wire transfer to Global after the fuel was delivered. I also found
Global a good source of information on agents.
One caveat: since Global's principal business is dealing with megayachts
which are very thirsty at the fuel pump, they may be reluctant to service a
small yacht that takes on small quantities of fuel frequently. If you have
questions about this, discuss it frankly with them and let them know how
much fuel you typically require rather than having the problem arise later
when you really need fuel.
Due diligence: although I have known and done business with Richard Manto,
Global's owner for about 15 years, I no business or personal relationship
other than as a satisfied customer.
