Visitors:
We thank all our visitors and counters including Noel, Juliette, Jim, Dana,
John, Linda and Joe. We appreciate all the eyes we can get while these
north winds persist!
Weather:
The weather today was mostly sunny with a few clouds. We had some pretty
interesting rainbows today which only took up a little of our attention (I
promise). The wind was northerly most of the day and weak, and by the
afternoon it had turned southeast. A pleasant day on the tower!
Raptor Observations:
The majority of birds today were turkey vultures, easily countable as they
were right over the tower. Most commonly, red-shouldered hawks, and
red-tailed hawks flew with them and were easy to spot with the clear skies.
Mid-morning we had lots of sharpies fly over the tower.
Non-raptor Observations:
We had a few new species seen today including white-crowned sparrow,
American tree sparrow, and winter wren. There were more waterfowl on the
marsh too, in open pools of water between the dying lilies. We had northern
shoveler, gadwall, a trumpeter swan and others. Another good migration day
for blue jays with 33,000 seen. Yellow-rumped warblers continue to be very
abundant around the tower.

Predictions:
Tomorrow's winds are said to have a northern component, and more turkey
vultures should be flying over the tower, likely with red-shoulders and
red-tails in tow. The sharp shinned hawks have been consistently flying
close to the tower so come and get some great pictures!
