Visitors:
We appreciate all the interest in the tower and the hawk watch but remind
everyone that the tower remains closed to members of the public and has a
three-person limit reserved for the Hawk Counters. Thank you to all who are
respecting these precautions. Be safe everyone!
Weather:
A cold start to the day around 0c, which increased to around 7c at the end.
The wind gradually increased strength throughout the day starting in the
west and slowly turning south west. It was generally bright with a mixed
cloud cover. The barometer slowly fell during the day.
Raptor Observations:
Slow again today with Turkey Vultures (39) mostly appearing in mid morning.
Red-tailed Hawks (29) migrated separately throughout the day, accompanied
by a couple of Red-shouldered Hawks. Sharp-shinned Hawk (13) numbers were
up compared to the previous day. A couple of Bald Eagles flew west high
above us.
Non-raptor Observations:
The highlight of the day was an early flock of 12 Snow Buntings with 2
settling on marsh vegetation. Wildfowl numbers were slightly lower, with
Double-crested Cormorants very low at 8. A good variety of ducks were
present with good close views of Bufflehead and Hooded Merganser.
Blackbirds were at reasonable numbers with Rusty Blackbirds again taking
prime spot in the trees around the Tower. There was a good early morning
migration of Pine Siskins (261). Tree Swallows (13) were again hawking over
the marsh, but alas no Cave Swallows!. The full list is at

Predictions:
Should be a warmer and brighter day tomorrow, with no rain and moderate
wind from the south west. Lets hope that the wind keeps lower than today
and encourages more Turkey Vultures and buteos to get moving, together with
accipiters and falcons, and of course Harriers!.
