Thought folks might be interested in the dead gray cat bird a friend of mine found in Washington Depot, CT that had a band. Thanks to folks at CTBirds I got the address for sending the band to the USGC. The band was just to small for my friend or me to read the band number, so we could not send the information on the band to the USGS via email. I had just about given up hearing from the USGS concerning the band on the dead gray cat bird. Today I got a "Certificate of Appreciation" from the USGS concerning the band with the following information:

Band #  1991-74715
Banded: 05/15/2008
Species: Gray Catbird
Sex: Unknown
Age of Bird: Hatched in 2007
Location of banding: Island Beach State Park, Ocean County, New Jersey
Bander: Dr. Yunick, New York
Encounter Data
Location: Near Washington Depot, Connecticut
Encountered (Estimated date found dead): 05/18/2008

Interesting to note that catbird was a young bird. Most birds are lucky if they make it past a year old.
