Consider shipping the mast to Tonawanda, restep and sail from there.

Sailboats without their mast up roll very fast and uncomfortably.  In the
canals, not such a problem but in open water, allow time to wait for calm
conditions, which may be primarily motoring at night....

The mast adds inertia with a much slower roll than with the mast down.
Think ice skater with arms extended spins slowly and speeds up with arms
drawn in.
