Here's the scoop on the New York-Bermuda run:
In 1996, a Glacier Bay 26 Canyon Runner was the first
outboard-powered boat to reach Bermuda unassisted. It needed 37 hours
to make the 728-mile passage with twin Honda 90-hp four-stroke
engines consuming 350 gallons of fuel.
In 1999, a World Cat 26 ran a slightly longer course--780-nautical
miles--but took only 29 hours and 19 minutes to capture the Bermuda
Challenge Trophy. The World Cat was powered by twin 150-hp Mercury
motors. Average speed was 27 knots.
In July, 2002, a Renaissance Prowler 306 catamaran powered by twin
Honda BF225 four-stroke outboards shattered the record by making the
run in 22 hours and 23 minutes. Assuming the Prowler also ran 780-nm
to reach St. George's, its average speed was 35 knots. Fuel burn was
490 gallons. The 30-foot Prowler is the current record holder.

Another power catamaran is being prepared for the challenge, but more
on that later.
