Hello,

I am Elizabeth Counsman.  I am a deputy city attorney for the City of Palm Bay, Florida.  Palm Bay covers apprx. 100 sq. miles and has a population of around 100,000 people.  The City has a lot of undeveloped land; therefore, the city has a lot of growth issues.

We have a small city attorney's office.  There are three attorneys and one secretary/ office manager/ budget keeper.  My areas of interest involve growth management, first amendment issues, utility issues and public works issues like drainage etc. . .  Because of our small office, I handle most of our transactional work, which includes drafting and reviewing contracts, drafting and reviewing ordinances and just about everything else that does not involve litigation.

I really love my job.  I have amazing coworkers, and I get to do research everyday on subjects I love.  Please let me know if there is anything I can ever do to help.

Hi all,

My name is Devala Janardan. I work here at IMLA as associate counsel.
Our executive director Chuck Thompson was my local government professor
during law school...I liked the class so much that I ended up coming to
IMLA after graduation to work for him in this great field of local
government law.

IMLA is a small office, so the work has been very varied and
interesting. I've been fortunate enough to meet local government
attorneys from all over the US/Canada and I must say, it's an impressive
group. However, I've noticed that there aren't a lot of younger
attorneys that come to our events. That is a shame, because the
networking that occurs can really benefit young attorneys, like us.
Hopefully this listserv is a first step in getting to know one another.

I'm glad that IMLA has started a young lawyers listserv, and hope that
I'll be able to meet you all at one of our events.
