MINKA is proud to present "Art as Kites", an exuberant sampling of
wind-turning highfliers by Scott Skinner, Greg Kono and Jose Sainz. These
three diverse artists give new meaning to the eternal question, "Do you
think this idea will fly?" The answer is, "Of course!" Meet Greg Kono and
kite expert Alison Fujino at the Tacoma Studio Tour, Sunday, Oct. 13 (exact
time to be announced). Fujino recently gave a talk about kites at the
Sorbonne in Paris, and she will be on hand to answer your questions about
this fascinating sport and craft. "Art as Kites" will be on view from Oct.
1 through Dec. 31, 2019 at MINKA (821 Pacific Ave.). This show is presented
with support from the Seattle-based Drachen Foundation, for 25 years
devoted to spreading knowledge about kites worldwide. (Washi paper, bamboo
and nori paste kite by Greg Kono. Slide photos of Kono's travels fill the
kite's round windows.)
