This morning I watched 2 adult male Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers fly from the
base of a tree in our back woods to a patch of exposed lawn under a table
feeder where they snacked on seed. Unusual to see them on the ground at
seed; sapsuckers usually visit our winterberries for fruit in late fall,
then occasionally suet. Five weeks ago I saw 2 juveniles chase each other
through the woods.
