Just about every cheap pocket P&S digital camera these days has a video
mode capable of taking respectable HD videos better than can be
captured on a smartphone, Droid, iPhone, or iPad. The secret to a
decent short film is editing. Cut out the boring repetitive, stuff.
Eliminate long pans. Don't move the camera when filming. Use a support
or tripod, or even a bean bag to keep the picture steady. We are
inundated with professionally made videos these days on TV and the web.
If you want people to watch your blogs more than once, try to learn how
to make decent videos. It's about as hard as learning the navigation
rules for the inland waterways and I'm sure we have all mastered that.
It ain't brain surgery but it does demand some effort.

P.S. I paid my way through college working as a newspaper and newsreel
photographer.
